"Among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ."
But God.
Those two little words change everything. From sin, lust, anger, unholy desires, wrath, all of it, to alive in Christ and with Christ. With two words. Two words change the way we live. The way we think, speak, and act.
This verse shows just how powerful our God is. How immense and deep his grace. How rich and holy his kindness. How much he cares for us.
I think this is something truly amazing to think about. When I think of our sick, dying world, I can't help wonder how God can save them. And then, I think about how he saved me. From this sick, dying world. From sin, lust, anger, unholy desires, wrath, all of it. And then I think about this very verse: But God. And then I forget about what the world is now, but what it could be if everyone had what I have.
And that's what gives me hope for tomorrow.
And, even if no one else comes to know our God, we can have hope. For Phillipians 3:20-21 says this; "But our citizenship is in Heaven, and from it we await a saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body." We await a saviour. We aren't of this world. We set our eyes on God, and he has promised that he will come through. So even if no one else turns to the Lord, we will set our eyes on him and he will bring us to him.
But more will come. We are the advertisement, and he is the newspaper. He supports us and builds us up, and we go out there and proclaim his gospel. Then he does the rest.

rachel,
ReplyDeleteThese two words have so much depth. it helps to challenge us to think about what it means, thank you for that. Like you, I appreciate His mercy, saving a sinner like me. I know just what I think I know about my dark heart, but God, knows it all. And loves us with the full knowledge of it all.
This is great stuff, thanks for sharing, keep writing!
